Mary Esther Morrow, Ed.S.
Visual Arts Teacher, St. Clair County High School | Odenville, AL

"I am excited to learn more about the LMC Unsung Heroes and develop lesson plans, activities, and events that will tell their stories through the artwork of my talented visual arts students. My hope is that as my students learn about the lives, actions, and impacts of the LMC Unsung Heroes, they will be inspired to take actions that will help others."

Mary Morrow has been a St. Clair County Saint since the 2nd grade—that is her proud answer when asked where she went to school or where she has taught. It is an honor for her to teach at the same high school she graduated from, though she did take a break to attend college. This year marks her 28th year teaching visual arts classes. She holds a BA in Art/Art History and an MA in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as an EdS in Teacher Leadership from Jacksonville State University. Currently, she is the sponsor for the drama club, Saints in the Spotlight, which will bring Beetlejuice to the stage this spring. She has also served as dance team sponsor, cheer coach, and yearbook adviser. As the adviser of the St. Clair yearbook, her students were recognized by state and national press associations.

Mary has been honored to work with many talented students throughout her career, who have received state and national awards. Last year, she became a NAEA CAN (Connected Arts Network) teacher participant, collaborating with arts educators nationwide in PLCs to share knowledge and create lesson plans for the NAEA website over a three-year period. As a National Board-Certified Teacher, she understands the importance of being a lifelong learner as well as a lifelong teacher. Her teaching career actually started when she was about five years old, eagerly teaching her younger sister what she learned each day. Her love of learning motivates her as an educator, and she finds inspiration in witnessing her students’ “aha” moments when they learn something new, are inspired, or create amazing artworks. Mary has been learning and teaching since she was five years old, and she hopes to continue for many more.
