"I think allowing students to explore and learn about real heroic people will be inspiring for them. It will help students push their artmaking and do their best. I feel that students will also be excited to submit to the ARTEFFECT annual competition as it can lend purpose to the project."
Rosemary (Rosie) Ziegler discovered her passion for art in her senior year of high school, when she finally had the opportunity to take an art elective. That experience solidified her future as an art teacher. She attended Truman State University, earning a BFA in Printmaking and an MAE. Rosie began her teaching career in elementary education and is now in her 10th year at Troy Buchanan High School, where she teaches drawing, painting, and AP classes. Even before graduating, she joined the Missouri Art Education Association, and since then has served as a district representative, president-elect, and now president of the state-wide organization. She is adamant that teachers need to continue learning, connect with other educators, and provide new experiences for themselves to foster vibrant art communities and effective teaching in the classroom.
