Pat Sprinkle
History and Social Studies Teacher, NYC Lab School for Collaborative Studies | New York, NY

The fellowship’s focus on the Unsung Heroes resonates deeply with my teaching philosophy, as it challenges students to look beyond the familiar narratives and appreciate the power of individuals whose contributions shaped society in profound yet underrecognized ways. Art provides a transformative medium through which these voices can be rediscovered and celebrated.

Pat Sprinkle is a veteran history and social studies educator with over 16 years of classroom experience in New York City public schools, specializing in U.S. History, AP U.S. History, and AP Government. He holds degrees from The Ohio State University and Columbia University and has served in multiple leadership roles, including curriculum designer, school leadership team member, and mentor for teacher professional development. Sprinkle’s teaching has been enriched through fellowships and partnerships with organizations such as Fulbright, National History Day, and civic engagement initiatives, all of which have deepened his commitment to interdisciplinary, inquiry-based education. What motivates him as an educator is the belief that history is a living dialogue—one that empowers young people to see themselves as participants in shaping their communities and futures. He is especially passionate about connecting history to the arts, civic engagement, and underrepresented voices, helping students understand that the past is not distant but alive in the choices we make today.
