
I'm eager to learn from their diverse experiences and gain insights into how they successfully encourage the ARTEFFECT competition in their own classrooms. This exchange of ideas will be invaluable in refining my own approach and collectively strengthening the program's reach, ultimately empowering students to become agents of positive change.
Marci Kivo is driven by a passion for fostering a love of learning in students, creating curriculum that is accessible to different types of learners, and seeing students succeed in the goals they have set forth for themselves. She currently co-teaches eighth grade Social Studies and English Language Arts, adapting instruction and collaborating with colleagues to enhance learning. Kivo integrates creativity, project-based learning, and critical thinking skills into daily instruction. Her motivation stems from seeing students actively engage with challenging material, especially when they discover a personal connection to the content. She designs curriculum that addresses diverse learning styles, ensuring every student has an entry point to the material. Furthermore, Kivo creates a classroom setting that feels welcoming, encouraging all students to put forth their personal best. Previously, she worked as a Social Studies and Special Education teacher for New York City Public Schools. Kivo holds a Master of Arts in Secondary Education, Social Studies Teaching Option from New York University, and a Bachelor of Science from The Pennsylvania State University in Secondary Education, Social Studies Teaching Option. She obtained her Special Education certification through coursework at Hofstra University.
