Ambassador

Lauren Kulesz
Art and Journalism Teacher, Venture High School | Arlington, TX

I had the opportunity to participate in a couple of the ARTEFFECT Professional Development sessions last year, and I found them deeply inspiring. . . I believe that becoming an ARTEFFECT Ambassador will be an incredibly valuable experience—one that will not only support my own growth but also bring meaningful impact to my students and classroom community.

Lauren Kulesz begins every school year by telling her students something that often surprises them: she didn’t enjoy school when she was their age. This usually gets a few laughs and puzzled looks, followed by the question, “Then why did you become a teacher?” Her answer is simple: because of a few incredible teachers who changed her life. Beginning in her sophomore year of high school, Kulesz encountered educators who made her feel seen and inspired—Mr. Regalado in Photography, Ms. Nagim in Art, Mrs. Kouba in Ceramics, Mr. Jordan in Choir, and Ms. Campbell in English. Their classrooms became safe havens, not just because she enjoyed the subjects, but because of the way these teachers showed up for their students. Their impact is what motivated Kulesz to become an educator herself. She strives to create that same sense of connection and purpose for her students, offering them a space they look forward to, a class that feels like home, and a reason to keep moving forward. As a teacher, especially in alternative education settings, Kulesz is driven by the opportunity to inspire students to discover their voice, confidence, and potential through art.
