Lauren Blakely
Art Teacher, White Knoll Middle School | West Columbia, SC

I'm particularly drawn to the idea of using artistic expression to drive positive change and connection. I believe in the power of art to bridge gaps in literacy and to foster empathy within students for people whose experiences differ from their own.

Lauren Blakely is an educator and artist. She earned her bachelor’s degree in art, K-12 Certification from Winthrop University. Since graduation, Lauren has worked as an art teacher at White Knoll Middle. She is currently a member of the Discipline Team, a mentor, an evaluator, their head cheer coach, and yearbook advisor. From 2023 and 2024, she was recognized as a Featured Artist for the Irmo International Festival. She co-led the creation of a community Rangoli. Lauren frequently shares insights and experiences through presentations at various conferences including National Art Education, American Association for School Librarians- National, SC Art Education, South Carolina Association of Middle Level Educators, and the SC Association for School Librarian. She is a co-author of the article "Book Bans in Critical Times." Collaboration is a key aspect of Lauren's approach to education. Her work consistently focuses on supporting student growth and enriching their educational journey by using visual literacy.
