Ambassador

Jem Cloyd Tanucan, Ph.D.
Art Teacher, Colonial Beach High School | Colonial Beach, VA

The ARTEFFECT Ambassadors program, with its online fellowship structure, promises collaborative learning alongside fellow educators, where we can share best practices, explore adaptive art methodologies, and experiment with inclusive curricula. I envision using the program's resources to try out sensory-friendly supplies and other inclusive creative pedagogies that truly empower students to express themselves.

Jem Cloyd Tanucan began his career in education as a dedicated public-school teacher in the Philippines' Department of Education, where he led the Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health department and coordinated various district- and division-wide activities. He now serves as a high school teacher at Colonial Beach High School in Virginia. Tanucan earned his undergraduate degree in education from the University of San Carlos in the Philippines and pursued two master’s degrees—one in Physical Education from Cebu Normal University (CNU) and another in Special Education from Cebu Technological University. Additionally, he holds two doctorate degrees from CNU: a Doctor of Education in Educational Management and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education, specializing in Research and Evaluation. In 2024, Tanucan played a pivotal role on the Virginia Department of Education’s Fine Arts Steering Committee, contributing to resources aligned with the 2020 Fine Arts Standards of Learning for schools across Virginia. He is committed to ensuring every student and educator feels supported, inspired, and equipped to thrive. As a dedicated father, Tanucan cherishes spending time with his small, yet very beautiful, family.
