Brandy Boden
Visual Arts Teacher, Northfield Middle High School | Northfield, VT

For me, this fellowship is about helping students connect to history in meaningful ways while creating art that is authentic and powerful. Above all, I am interested in the opportunity to bring inspiring stories into my classroom and empower my students to create art that not only reflects themselves but also honors others.

Brandy Boden is a visual arts educator at Northfield Middle High School in Vermont, where she teaches students in grades 6–12. Her classes span ceramics, printmaking, 2D and 3D media, painting and experimental media, communications and media, and social justice in the arts. She designs project-based lessons that encourage students to use art as a tool for self-expression, storytelling, and community connection. Boden earned her M.F.A. in Studio Arts from Syracuse University and completed her PK–12 Art Licensure through Champlain College’s Teacher Apprenticeship Program. As a U.S. Fulbright Student at Dublin’s Hugh Lane Gallery, she collaborated with museum educators to develop programs that used art to foster literacy, collaboration, and civic dialogue. Her background also includes a Master of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies, with a focus on outdoor leadership and environmental education. What motivates her most as an educator is helping students discover their creative agency. Boden believes art has the power to amplify underrepresented voices, spark empathy, and connect young people to both their own identities and the broader world around them.
