"Besides gaining access to a plethora of resources, I also look forward to the opportunity to connect and collaborate with like-minded teachers who are also passionate about incorporating visual arts into their curriculum."
Aja Brown is currently a model STEM teacher at The Metropolitan Soundview High School. She has fifteen years of teaching experience and is always seeking ways to better her teaching toolbox. Brown is a member of Math for America, Society for Science, and The New York Academy of Sciences. All of these networks have provided her with opportunities to collaborate, exchange, and develop innovative lessons and curriculum with a community of similarly dedicated peers. She strives to create a robust STEAM course that is not only engaging but relevant to her students’ everyday lives. Brown’s teaching philosophy evolves each year based on her incoming students and professional learning experiences, yet it is always based on the premise that students learn best by doing. She can explain a concept to students countless times, but to participate in an activity where the concepts come to life or are pertinent to their own experiences is much more tangible and relatable.
